HOW TO HANDLE A DISSAPOINTMENT

By Patricia Gilliam, eHow Member

Big or small, disappointing situations can sometimes happen in life. Knowing how to handle them can help you keep things in perspective and allow you to bounce back from the disappointing situation faster. Here are some tips on how to do this:

Step 1. First, try to salvage some kind of good out of the situation if at all possible. Did you learn something from it to where if a similar situation occurs you now have more experience?

Step 2. Count your blessings outside of the disappointing situation. This one thing may not have worked out, but there could be other areas of your life that are positive.

Step 3. Focus on what you can control of the situation. It may mean trying again from a different approach, or it may mean moving on to something else because of what you learned.

Step 4. Do something that can relieve the stress of the situation. It doesn't have to be anything expensive--just enough of a distraction to get your mind working toward something productive. Hobbies are very good for this.

Step 5. Do not focus on worry, fear, or guilt. All of these things tend to hold you up from moving forward.

Step 6. Remember that time will change this situation, and a year or two from now this could possibly be nothing more than a distant memory
